White Alice Communications System Alaska 1950’s Part II

The film starts with footage of train tracks, passenger car and an airport with a Pan American World Airways (PAA) plane and an Alaska Airlines plane.  Then, some aerial views of the water and the construction campsite.  Once on the ground, the film cuts to a seaplane taking off and then to a large bulldozer moving a building on sled-like skids.  The crew then takes a minute to make ice cream using the abundant snow and ice.  The men are back at camp and working with large tank-like vehicles.  Next, we again see aerial views of the camp and the construction.

White Alice Communication System Alaska 1950’s

This is an 8mm color home movie film taken in the 1950’s in Alaska.  The footage begins with a man in the cockpit of an airplane.  Then a view out of the window of the aircraft to see its wing and beyond to the ground below.  The film then cuts to a bulldozer hauling a building that is on sled-like skids across the grass.  To say this camp is a bit muddy would be an understatement.  There is a white building and another military green tank-like vehicle there.  It’s a crazy sight to see the bulldozer work the muddy earth and then move right to snow.

Back on land, a single man stands with several cattle grazing in the sandy soil. Then to dinner time with some freshly caught fish grilled up out on the open-air pit.

Pool Party 1950’s in Dallas Texas

The movie starts with pretty women getting ready to head out for a day in the sun at a pool party.  The bikini tops are a great indication of their intent.  Their aged golden retriever is seen heading the other way- he doesn’t want to join the group.  Once at the pool a couple of things stand out to me.  The first is the number of women wearing a swimming cap.  The second, there doesn’t appear to be any children splashing around in the water.  The entire group is all smiling when they get out of the water to enjoy a drink and a cigarette.
