Found Photos: 1948 SMU vs Baylor Cotton Bowl Dallas Texas

SMU beat Baylor 13-6 in front of 56,000 on November 20, 1948. The 1948 SMU Mustangs football team represented Southern Methodist University during the 1948 college football season. They were ranked in the top ten most of the season, and ended the year winning the Cotton Bowl. Doak Walker the star halfback was a junior and won the Heisman Trophy. Doak established several other Southwest Conference records that still stand.

Found Letter: Clair E. Musser Letter Home From Bootcamp Killed in Action USS Sigsbee WWII

This is a letter home from a new Navy sailor at the United States Naval Training Center, Bainbridge Maryland. The letter talks about the daily goings-on at boot camp.

This letter is different in that Clair Musser was killed and lost at sea on April 14th, 1945. Less than 90 days after this letter was writing. The USS Sigsbee destroyer was struck aft of her number five gun by a kamikaze suicide plane off the coast of Okinawa. He was one of twenty-three sailors killed in the attack.
